Giant? The Keg serves up a 24 oz. prime rib at least twice the size of this one.

My dad’s favourite restaurant for celebrations. Fond memories.

Last 5 times I’ve gone to the Keg I’ve had bad experiences with the orders coming from the kitchen. Steak’s the wrong colour every time. Veggies either over cooked or under cooked. Will not be back on my dime for a long time. Will be giving some hard working independent restaurants my money. Seems like they are struggling with staffing since the lockdown.

Damn you op for making me hungry after just eating.

I used to go to the Keg a lot, then not at all for the last three years. Went in there a couple of weeks ago and ordered the prime rib, usually my fave, and it was actually dry and didn’t have the usual taste – like they had sliced it and let it sit for a while before serving. I always get it at the doneness that they say the whole cut is at, usually medium rare, so they shouldn’t have been cooking it at all after slicing. Very disappointing.

Looks like something you get on the strip in Vegas

Most “Canadiana” restaurants in this city absolutely suck ass. The lack of flavour and seasoning is honestly revolting. Even the sides on this dish make me think we’re rationing during war time.

It’s a shame because it can actually be good food. Montreal does a great job at it.

I like the keg, but I hate prime rib

Lol, so many haters. I think that looks great OP you’ve got me hungry.

What do they charge for this meal

I have noticed that ever since the lockdown lifted, the keg isn’t anywhere close to as good as it used to be. Use to enjoy it alot, but the service and the food leaves alot to be desired. Hopefully, it was a good experience for you OP.

I approve of this post and would like another plateful please, mister

Can someone tell me how Zorro’s compares to this? I’ve always wanted to go but don’t feel like driving by the airport.

The Keg has a “McDonalds of steakhouses rep” but fuck that. It’s always good, and cheap compared to others. But good.

  15. SALADAYS-4DAYS

Easily the best deal in town. Assuming it’s still $50.

Never knew the Keg was sold. Sad as it used to be good. I went a few months ago to the Esplanade location. Very nice and the food was done perfectly. I think it really depends on the chef that’s working.

Before that, it’s probably been over ten years since I’ve been, but from reading the comments, I could see how a buyout and covid could destroy a good thing.

There is no evidence of that in this picture

I mean it’s no Jacobs or Barberian’s but it is still decent Steak.

Is this supposed to be pro or anti Keg? I can’t tell if dude is bragging or complaining about his meal.

EDIT: How much did this cost, and how many oz was the steak? Also, what did you order? (rare, medium, well done…)

  20. PawaaKuriinYYZ

I ordered that exact same thing about a month back. I was so incredibly disappointed. They need a menu with pictures. -_-“

I’ve always found The Keg to be consistently good and enjoyable even though it has the “I’m a chain” knock against it.

However I was there in the last 6 months and found the courses rushed with smaller portions. Plus the prices have gone up – like everywhere else. Same experience at Baton Rouge.

    The KEg.

    You’re in Toronto*.*

    A food Mecca.

    At an overpriced *chain restaurant?*

Well, it’s not *my* money being blown on garbage…

They presented the meat in this photo upside down…

  24. murtastic

Always amazed by people going to the keg in downtown Toronto. You couldn’t get a reso at any other descent spot in a city with some of the best cuisine in the world?

  25. Sci3nceMan

    Fat Poll:

    1. I eat the fat on prime rib.
    2. I don’t eat the fat on prime rib.

  26. LeabianSeagull

Try the keg omega next time. You won’t be disappointed.

  27. inc_mplete

I get the same thing and tell them it’s my bday to get free billy miner pie.

  28. PartagasSD4

Kegs are one of the few places always serving prime rib on any given day, and they’re fine. IMO it is the best item on their menu.

Given a choice though I’d always go to Cote de Bouef instead.
