I moved to the valley last year from Northern Virginia – there was an Afghan kabob place that was our favorite take-out spot. (Link to menu is below as an idea of what kind of food I’m looking for.)

I know LA has a ton of kabob places, but most seem to be Persian, Armenian, or Lebanese. I haven’t been able to find an Afghan kabob spot with chicken haleem. Any recs? Does it exist here? Or is like a “NY” style egg roll in that it’s near impossible to find in LA?

I’m from NoVa and it took a while for me to find a kabob place that was as good as back there. I found a place that’s not afghan, but it’s really good: Seasoning Alley in Montrose. They call things different names like their Luleh kabobs taste like Afghan Koobideh kabobs. I’ve never had chicken Haleem, so couldn’t tell you if they have an equivalent – but the place is worth checking out IMO. Their lamb chops are amazing too.

Apologies ahead of time if this is ignorant to different cultures or cuisines. I’m just talking about it based on my tastebuds.

Check out halal kitchen cafe in Northridge. Or naan dagh kabob dagh in reseda. Both places may not have haleem on the menu but if you ask they may have some on occasion

Hello former neighbor and current neighbor,

I grew up on that exact same place in Herndon, and haven’t really found anything that compares out here.

Melad is mostly just a little market and they make the big bread. They serve REALLY GOOD food, but the menu is limited to whatever they’re making week to week. And it’s just a couple tables out side or to go plates.

There’s a restaurant way down in Lake Forest called Chili Chutney that I’ve yet to try, but looks like it has the full spread.

Best Afghan food is in Fremont, up in the bay.
