* 2 slices of toast bread * 2 eggs * 2 tablespoons butter at room temperature * 1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika * 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder * Salt and pepper to taste
**Instructions**
1. Using a sharp round, cookie cutter cut out the center of the bread slices. Do not discard the center. 2. Place a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the butter and melt it. 3. Place the bread including the cutout into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, until golden. 4. Flip the bread slice and the cutout and at this time, add the eggs into the holes. 5. Sprinkle some garlic powder and smoked paprika and season with salt and pepper. 6. Lover heat to medium, cover and cook for a minute or to the desired egg doneness. 7. Serve immediately.

That’s beautiful!
My partner and I have a long standing argument about the terminology for this though. He grew up calling it eggs in a basket. But my dad called it “Yankee toast.” Someone else I know called it egg in a hole.
I mean, is delicious whatever it’s called. But we’ve been (good naturedly) fighting about this for years.

Toad in a hole. They’re borderline magical with the right bread.

Evey: The first morning I was with him, he made me eggs just like this.
Gordon Deitrich: Really?
Evey Hammond: I swear.
Gordon Deitrich: That is a strange coincidence. Although, there’s an obvious explanation.
Evey Hammond: There is?
Gordon Deitrich: Yes, Evey. I am V. At last you know the truth. You’re stunned, I know. It’s hard to believe isn’t it, that beneath this wrinkled, well-fed exterior there lies a dangerous killing machine with a fetish for Fawkesian masks. ¡Viva la revolución!
Evey Hammond: That is *not* funny, Gordon.
Gordon Deitrich: [sighs] Yeah, I know. I’m useless without a studio audience.

I think you’re in the wrong sub, that egg is *in* it, not *on* it.
