That’s as fresh as it gets! $15 isn’t bad at all. I used to work at a restaurant where we used to sell them for $10 a pop but that was in 2021 and it came packaged so given inflation and everything that’s a steal? Idk anymore haven’t been to any seafood restaurants in a while

I wouldn’t say that that is “cheap” as far as uni goes, but it doesn’t seem to be a bad price. Plus, that’s literally as fresh as you can possibly get it. I’d say that + the experience of seeing the urchin come out of the shell and into your mouth is more than worth $15 a pop!

We sold them $10/ea unprepared 10+ years ago. Seems like a great price.

I’ve only have uni a few times and never like that, just the eggs scooped out. Are those shells emptied and than filled with something plus the eggs? The 2nd looks like oysters or something to me if i were to guess.
Or is that just all natural and I guess its not severed that way here?

Pre pandemic we used to go to the very tip of Maine and stay on an off grid cabin right on the water. Our host had a lobster license and always offered guests that he liked a trip out on his boat whenever he went out.
He pulled these guys out of the water in his lobster traps on a regular basis. He said that we were the only guests that he ever had that wanted to keep these. He called them raccoon food. He never charged guests for anything that he was allowed to keep from his traps, such a nice guy.
