Nisei(*)
This was my second time dining here and both meals have been spectacular! Their take on Japanese cooking is very unique and the food+service are top notch. The dining room was almost empty for an early Thursday dinner, but it turned out to be a delightful and intimate experience! The slow night allowed for some awesome wine-geek conversations with their outstanding gm/somm, Ian Cobb. I’ve gotten the wine pairing both times I’ve gone and it’s been so fun to see how they pair wines with this style of cooking. (Barolo and grilled eel… enough said). My “date” got the sake pairing, and it was fun to sip back and forth to experience the different pairing perspectives. We also got drinks at their sister bar, Bar Iris, beforehand- a great place for quality cocktails and small bites if you’re looking to get a taste of Nisei without breaking the bank. I can’t recommend this place enough- if you’re ever in San Francisco show them some love and book a table!

Descriptions of dishes are in the picture captions- I forgot to take a picture of the lobster and chicken broth dish, which was cooked at the table in broth from
the teapot you see in the first picture. I was having a good time and got distracted, sue me!
