Went to dinner with the wife tonight. First time going to Longhorn Steakhouse in over a decade. I usually order my steaks rare, but this one…this one made me question whether it was rare and just fatty or just plain raw. The knife was borderline useless cutting through it. That said, Crackerbarrel’s steak, which is 1/3 the price of this one (also not a ribeye), completely blows it out of the water, and the garlic butter sauce it was coated in was out of this world. If you haven’t gone to a Crackerbarrel in a while, it’s definitely worth the trip.

Let me know what you think 🤔

Blue rare to rare IMHO. Rarer than id want a rare to be

Generally I say round up at chain restaurants/non-steakhouses. If you order rare they tend to get so focused on not over cooking it that it ends up be undercooked. Medium rare tends to be rare and medium ends up being medium rare. Obviously there are exceptions and places that completely fuck it up in the other direction.

With all due respect, if you order your steaks rare you should expect to get steaks like this every now and then. If you want rare steaks you should probably cook them yourself. Ordering medium rare at places like this will give you way more wiggle room when it comes to getting a steak that doesn’t suck.

That looks delicious, perfect rare steak, and also this is what you should expect when you order rare from a real steakhouse.

Fat looks cooked, looks good to me. I always order med rare at restaurants though and cook rare at home.

In no world is that rare. Still safe to eat as the fat looks cooked and the crust looks pretty good, but that’s going to be one chewy, flavorless bastard

My experience is always a restaurant will undercook your steak so if they get it wrong they can bring it to the desired temperature if it’s sent back. So for example if I want mid rare, I’ll order medium.

    Don’t go to shitty chains

  9. BB_Moon

They wiped its butt and made sure it wasn’t mooing.

Every time I’ve been to longhorn the server has you cut into the steak and make sure it’s correct before they leave the table.

I just had the outlaw ribeye med-rare last week and it was fantastic

This is usually what you get if you order “rare.”

  12. Wakandanbutter

This made me sad cause longhorn is my absolute go to cause they char the ribeye

  13. Raw means it wasn’t cooked at all. It literally has a sear on it so it’s not raw…

It’s hard to tell because it looks like you put it in a damn blender before you took this pic.

  15. RayCharlesSawItFirst

I wonder what you looked like cutting that entire rare steak up with a shitty knife.

    Bruh.

You went to a chain restaurant.

You ordered rare and got it.

    And complained about the knife.

    Then said Crackerbarrel was better.

    Go to Crackerbarrel.

    Do you need a hug?

    Love. Me.

Looks like something to find on stage at a cheap strip club.

    I love longhorn steakhouse
    Don’t shit on them please

    Reasonable price great steaks
    Can beat that.
Yeah you can cook one better at home
    But longhorn
you eat an don’t have to clean

Is a win win in my book

Is that ketchup on the side!? Is that a popular thing.
Really can’t fathom that. It’s not for me.

Also, yes it is raw not rare. But, that’s the chance you take ordering rare.

If anyone knows of a better family grade chain steak house. Please let me know. Adding a lobster tail for 9 dollars or whatever. A good choice ribeye at like $32 or whatever. It’s just good for the price point. Don’t get me wrong. Love a 70 dollar prime bone in ribeye. But. This place nails the American budget and pallet

  21. KeepYourDemonsIn

Order how you want, but I wouldn’t recommend ever ordering a ribeye less than medium or the fat may not be rendered.

  22. gotmynamefromcaptcha

Unfortunately not uncommon. This looks like it just barely got cooked enough to be considered rare. Same thing happened to me in a restaurant I went to in FL. Ordered a med-rare ribeye, and got the exact same result that you did. I still ate it though lol.

  23. yodathekid

Usually they ask you to make a cut in case it’s over or under. Another minute or two back on the grill would have helped it along

  24. AntiochianPilgrim

I don’t mind rare sometimes. But looking at that is turning my stomach.

  25. Forward-Mirror5621

This is on you. Only time you get a rare steak is if you know its a high quality cut and trust yourself/friend or a quality restaurant. You are not getting either at longhorn.

  26. Dangerous_Elk_6627

    Raw.

I don’t know what you ordered but it looks like you didn’t get what you ordered.
