Zone 6b…recently had a tree chopped down in my back patio and all of a sudden, this friend has popped up. Has tendrils like a cucumber, but leaves are much different. Is it a pumpkin?? Squash?? Zucchini???? I’m SO EXCITED BUT UNSURE

Some sort of squash/pumpkin. You’ll have to wait until it grows something to find out what.

  2. Yep a cucurbit for sure! Looks like squad or pumpkin to me, you’ll have to wait and see what variety.

I just discovered I’m unintentionally growing pumpkins. Looks just like your plant

I have mystery cucurbits as well!!! Mine are half intentional, I had pests eating my seedlings, so I planted bunches of seeds in my raised bed lol.

No female flowers yet, so the mystery continues!🧐

    It’s clearly a cucumber… or melon… or zucchini, punpkin, or squash…..

Definitely a pumpkin I think! It matches the vines I have

Did you chuck your Halloween pumpkins into the backyard? That’s what I did and ended up with like 3 randomly placed in my grass.

I get mystery cucurbits just by forgetting which seedlings I planted where 🤪

It’s weed. Bring it inside and convert a spare bedroom.

You’re growing a cumbre. A cantacumbre, cucumbre, watercumbre, some sort of meloncumbre? A pumcumbre or squacumbre

It is easy for redditors to misguess this so stick with the vaguer guesses. As with summer squash, initial male flowers will be long and thin (edit: picture two!) to attract pollinators. Later flowers will be close to the stem – these are the females that may form fruit. I had what I thought was volunteer spaghetti squash and they turned out to be monstrous 75 lb spherical squash I was able to compare to my banana squash, which was clearly one of the parents. The other parent squash did not wait for Maury so I’ll never know. I had four of these 75 pounders on one vine and won a couple of blue ribbons. Have fun!
