I’ve got too much. I’m thinking about letting the plants go at this point. I don’t want to be wasteful.

HI FRIEND I’ll take it! I kid, but food waste is wild, you’re like.. surely someone out there near me wants this? Hello? Is this thing on? Nice haul btw

Don’t you? Neighbours? Local food bank?

Any Southerners on your circle of acquaintances?

    How about West Africans?

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago and eventually learned who liked it other than my husband. 😜 I also quick – pickled some with habaneros and garlic and herbs and liked that better then most of my own attempts at cooking it.

I just tried this west African recipe (okro soup) for the first time, said to be what gumbo is based from, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. https://www.africanbites.com/okra-soup/

Try Indian recipes for bhindi as well. If you happen to be in the NYC/ NJ area I’ll happily relieve you of the bounty.

I planned for lot OKRA plants this year but rabbits got to many of those. I have few left and started producing but not to this level …

    Amazing produce

If you have any Indian neighbors or co workers ? They would gladly take it …. Very beloved vegetable

You can freeze them by boiling them for 3-4 minutes, dunking them in ice bath, then freezing. Mine grow infrequently so I’m saving up for a big batch.

    you can freeze it.
I wish I could get it from the picture! craving the stir fried bhindi so much!

Pickle them! I am not a huge fan of regular okra but love them pickled. They don’t get slimy.

Tell them it goes well with chicken!

Omg—wish I lived close enough to take those off your hands!

  12. DeinzoDragon

If I lived anywhere nearby, I’d absolutely take part of that off your hands lmao. Would throw that in a vegetable soup, or a salad, or fry some of it up and eat it as a side dish. Or pickle it. I love okra.

Good lord I’d take them ALL… they are absolutely delicious in a lot of Indian dishes and I love them.

If you’re looking for a simple way to cook them- toss the whole washed okra with flaky salt, paprika, your favorite oil and Indian garam masala. Put them on double skewers ( like you would do for jumbo shrimp) and grill them. They are incredibly delicious just as a side, or in sandwiches , wraps.

    I wish o was your neighbor!! 😋

Try pickeling them. They’re great in a bloody mary. Also good battered and fried. You can even dry them, grind them up and use the powder as a nutritional boost and thickener.

Next year I’m planting a few of those..

Lucky! I had six plants (all different varieties) but the animal life keep getting to them especially Bambi. They have produced a little but will have to definitely have to improve the garden defenses next year.

Indians LOVE okra. Hand it to your local Indian place and they’ll happily use it.
