Many restaurants in italy closed for summer vacation but I am thrilled that Ristorante Borgo San Jacopo, located inside of a hotel on the south bank of the arno river, did not. A spectacular meal of complementary flavors showcasing fine italian ingredients with impeccable service to boot.

I opted for the full chef’s experience and premium wine pairing; while the wines ranged from OK to good, they did not compete with the food. I also added the risotto, a glass of forgettable champagne, and a bottle of charles heidsieck 2008 brut to complete the meal. it was expensive, totaling appx €560 – 170 for tasting menu + 40ish for risotto, 155 for wine pairing + 200ish for extra champagnes – but well worth every euro.

Highlights: risotto, sauce work, beef tartare, porchetta. the rum baba was the only disappointing dish, although the turbot could be plated differently as the dish lacked cohesion between halves.

the raspberry beignet, caramelized onion cracker, and the goat cheese donut were the exemplary small bites.
