Your freezer is set for 30 degrees Fahrenheit?

Slice a sliver off and see if it’s still red. Tuna like beef will oxidize.

Gag. I couldn’t eat that regardless of the taste lol .
Put a coffee mug of water in the freezer. After it freezes, put a coin on top of the frozen ice. Let it sit for a few days. If the coin is still on top of the ice, freezer is good. If it’s stuck into / underneath ice then you need a new freezer. This looks like it got warmer than it should have to me .

30F probably isn’t cold enough to keep fish frozen because of the salinity. My freezers are -40F and -0F. I keep fish in the cold one, and I keep analog thermometers everywhere to be able to double-check at a glance.

Abort abort… do not eat under any circumstance

That tuna is oxidized. I am assuming you got wild bluefin from a local vendor or friend. 0 degrees F is not cold enough to maintain the color for wild bluefin. Should be fine for cooking. I wouldn’t throw it away. But I also would not eat it raw.
You probably have about 2-3 weeks tops in a regular freezer for tuna to maintain its color. You need a much colder freezer if you want to retain the color without oxidation.
Majority of store bought tuna has carbon monoxide treatment to help the fish retain its color. That’s why the store bought tuna can retain its color in the freezer or display window. This tuna is obviously not treated, which is awesome, but you see the aftermath of what happens when it stays in the freezer too long 😬
Even if it’s not bad, I wouldn’t eat something so visually unappealing, idc how much it cost…

When in doubt, throw it out
OP, don’t eat that

do you wanna eat it?

Did you rinse it with fresh water? You shouldn’t rinse salt fish , especially tuna with fresh water unless you’re going to eat it immediately, and even then it’s questionable.
EchoXResonate
That’s…definitely one of the tuna of all time 💀

My good friend it looks worse than some of the Mammoths we pull out of permafrost, no for the love of God don’t eat it.

I don’t even want to look at that without getting sick. Would definitely not chance putting it in my mouth. Also, a $20 tuna is not worth a $2,000 hospital bill. Toss it.

That fish is done. Your freezer needs to be 0 degrees (F) or -18 (c) at most, lower is better

Of course! Just not sushi.

Just. Just don’t
Are you planning on using this for sushi/sashimi? If so, chuck it. You need to store fish at -31°F. If you’re storing this fish at 30°F, then it’s no good, because that’s a 61° difference. [Here’s an article about safe storage for sushi grade fish.](https://www.seriouseats.com/how-to-prepare-raw-fish-at-home-sushi-sashimi-food-safety)
