Making New York’s Classic Black and White Cookie. The cookie I first heard of from and episode of Seinfeld. “Just look to the cookie”. I enjoy many New York City authentic recipes, so I dug up the closest I could find to the real thing. This cake left me speechless. Soft cake like cookie with the perfect chocolate and vanilla fondant icing. Can’t recommend enough!

  1. That's why there's so much buttermilk! For counter top spillages hahahah!!!
But if you don't spill anymore make some buttermilk pancakes with the rest!
Brings out the piping bag!!!! You got piping skills now!!!
Love the look of these black and white cookies, I think I'll give them a try 🙂 great work brother

  2. I should be studying but I'm watching Anti-Chef!! These are awesome!!! And NOBODY uses that much buttermilk!! (except for the person that commented.) Will definitely make these!!

  3. There was an episode of Goosebumps about evil floating masks and the girl talked about black and white cookies and she made them seem so delicious and I never heard of them in real life.. UNTIL NOW😳

  4. I wanted to do this cookie for a colleague that love Seinfeld for Festivus 2019. Your video was the one that made me have the courage to try it and me and my husband loved the cookie and my colleagues was really happy.
Now I just made them for a second time to cheer up this pandemic and will probably many more times.
This video also made me subscribe to you. Thank you for a funny, relaxed but still educational videos ☺
    Love from Sweden 🤗

  5. Made these today…they are awesome!!…but my rise was not the one I hoped for…Suggestions?…How much bakingsoda did you use?

  6. I lived in NYC for year or so when I was five, and then in Westchester for two years. I had completely forgotten about those years, but seeing these cookies brought back an absolute flood of memories. Thank you.

  7. Re: buttermilk…..I use 400 mls in each loaf of soda bread. I freeze the remainder. And if I don’t have any, I make a buttermilk substitute by adding lemon juice or vinegar to milk.

  8. You can freeze buttermilk. Use an ice cube tray and measure with water how many ounces each cube holds. Pour in buttermilk allowing for expansion when frozen. Store in a zip lock bag.

  9. My nanny always had a gallon of sweet (whole) milk and a gallon of buttermilk in the fridge at all times. We ate biscuits, or cornbread with almost every meal plus used buttermilk for brines for chicken and catfish and used it in batters all the time. Plus my grandparents and mom would have cornbread and buttermilk after supper all the time which is just a glass with crumbled up cornbread and buttermilk poured over top and they'd eat it with a spoon and drink it. 😝 I was never a fan of it personally. It's a southern thing.

  10. Lots of amazing uses for buttermilk. Could go on for hours, but, will spare you. Send me your buttermilk. Ok, fondant for frosting, ah, no. Buttercream all the way! IMHO.

  11. How does this only have 426 likes and 48 comments?!? Jamie prolly edits all of his videos and his production quality is better than huge channels with millions of subs and production teams! I am so glad that despite that he's keeping things in his style and not seeming even remotely desperate. Keep being you Jamie, even tho this being suppressed by youtube bullshit must be annoying as fuck

  12. No buttermilk on hand or don't want to buy it, just do this instead: Buttermilk: 1 cup.(Use 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice plus milk to equal 1 cup) Stir, then let stand for 5 minutes.

  13. All my years in NYC and I never ate one. I moved to AZ and a friend sent them to me when I was missing the city.

  14. The first time I ate these was when my mom was having a crazy morning and was in a rush and couldn't make breakfast before dropping me off at school (it was a half day) so she ran in to a bakery and bought some medium sized B&W cookies for me to munch on in the car before dropping me off. I have been a fan ever since.

  15. Your black and white cookie looks legit – just like the fresh ones from a nice bakery and way better than the convenience store ones I grew up on.

  16. Here in Central NY the cookies are called Half Moon Cookies and the frosting is a little different.
I am new to your channel! Love it!
