On a less concerning note, why does my kale plant sprout trunk leaves even with the top still on it?

On the most concerning side, the leaves on some of this plant have been having white spots with other discoloration. You can also see the side of the trunk looks very odd, as it if was scarred with an infestation of some sort. Similar is happening to maybe two of my neighboring kale plants. Anyone familiar with this at all?

It’s bolting, entering the flower phase and will set seeds if allowed to continue. Kale is a cool season crop and you might have better luck in fall and winter in your zone.

How long have you been growing your kale? It looks like you have had it for multiple seasons and it has just gotten taller over time.

Looks like a healthy, well harvested kale plant to me.

Just trying to produce side shoots. Totally normal. Broccoli (same family) does this more dramatically.
