Recipe here: http://www.joyofbaking.com/BlackAndWhiteCookies.html Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Black and White Cookies. Black and White Cookies, also known as Half Moon Cookies and Half and Half Cookies, have been around for more than a century. Who invented them, is anyone’s guess, but what we do know is that they are a staple at restaurants, coffee shops, delis, and bakeries all over New York. As their name implies, these large, sweet and buttery, dome shaped cookies, are iced with two flavors of frosting. One half of the cookie is covered with a white fondant frosting, the other half with a chocolate fondant frosting.

Hello Stephanie, I love your Videos. This Video is funny for me, because the black&White Cookies are called in Germany "Amerikaner" means Americans in german. why this is so, is not clearly documented. Have a nice Day 🙂
Enjoyed making these. I did a cheat though. I piped the dough since it was like a thick cake batter and I also used piping bags to put the icings on giving a good half and half effect. Extremely tasty and the hint of lemon genius.
This is one of favorite cookies

I don't see Cake Flour in my grocery store and i'm in the UK. Is this also known as self-raising flour?
I am about to make Half Moon cookies for the first time (although mine will be chocolate like the ones from Hemstrought Bakery in Utica NY). I was very nervous about getting them nicely round and keeping the frosting neat – your helpful video addressed both of those concerns. Thanks!
Great video. Thanks. I made a Christmas version. Red and green with cinnamon flavoring the red and pepperment flavoring the green. The family loved them. Cheers.
can I use all purpose flour?
We call them 'neenish tarts' but they are filled with cream under the icing.
We're making these in my cooking class tomorrow, and to be honest your recipe is exactly like the ones we use in my class

Yum!! Half-Moon cookies! My grandmother made these all the time when I was a child. They go great with milk or coffee.
Hi Stephanie…I was wondering if you've ever made chocolate black and white cookies or if you would know how much cocoa powder you would need to make the vanilla ones into chocolate? Thanks, Beverly
why does she put demonstration for each video?
After dividing the icing, could I add a small amount of almond extract to the white icing (I know almond extract is strong)?
