Can I use this one piece lidded jar for canning? It’s a two ounce jar. Having a hard time finding a two oz jar with a 2-piece lid. Thanks!

  1. As far as I know, any water bath or pressure canning process would need a 2 part lid

What are you trying to can in 2oz jars? 4oz is the smallest you’re likely to find.

The little guys like yours would be fine for refrigerated products, honey or spice mixes.

I have canned with one piece lids but only for things stored in the fridge. Like chilli or soups with meat. It seriously extends the fridge life but isn’t shelf stable.

    short answer, no

long answer, no because it can’t seal when canned. when canning you want a two part lid because the flat part that actually works as the lid (not the rings) gets suctioned to the jar and has a material on the bottom that helps create a seal. without those flat lids you’re not able to create a proper seal which would make the food unsafe to store 🙂

but you can use that for dry storage as others have said

I dont think it would seal right. if you tighten it too much you wont get the correct expansion action, and if you dont tighten it enough it won’t get a seal. you need two moving parts, a separate ring and lid, to make canning work.
