Hi friends, a relative recently has given me an antique jar that my grandmother used for canning. I was wondering if anyone could help me understand what the number on the bottom of the jar ? I know that numbers are usually used to identify the mold used but this number is 144. A three digit number makes me wonder if the number could mean something else.

I have several of these jars and they are meant for zinc lids. They were made by the Hazal-Atlas Glass Company.
Personally I would not use them for canning as tempted as I am and I’ve got the zinc lids to go with them. For now they have a special place in my pantry — just sitting there looking pretty with nothing in them!
Apparently mold numbers alone do not always provide definitive info, but looks like the H(Hazel) over A Mason dates from 1950’s-1960’s.

I see posts like this and then start looking through my jars. My plain jars are sitting unused in boxes. While the more unusual and unique jars are filled jams, tomatoes, pears, etc. I like how they look and feel and have a hard time not using them.
