I bought this jar of fig preserves at my local farmers market. I was super excited to give them a try but when I opened the jar there was a tiny bit of mold. Can I scoop it out and eat the rest or is the whole jar bad? Should I take it back to the lady I bought it from?

No it’s not sealed pls throw it away
I wouldn’t eat it. What you do from there is up to you.
No, mold has roots and you have no way of knowing how deep it has spread before fruiting.
Definitely take it back to the seller, in a good world they have no idea it’s moldy
Absolutely not. Do not eat that.
Contact the seller. Report it to them, save your photos, and bag and throw away this product. Mark on the outside of the bag clearly “do not eat”

Do you normally eat mold? Why do you have to even ask this question?

No
So the dangerous thing about mold, aside from some of them producing toxins, is that it can raise the pH and invite otherwise inactive pathogens to start multiplying.
Just a little fresh penicillin for ya!
Just eat the fuzzy bit and throw the rest away
Nope, if it were correctly made and processed, it wouldn’t be moldy. Likely open kettle canned or underprocessed in the waterbath.
Figs are a low acid fruit and must be acidulated at canning to be safely water bathed. This seller needs to know about their product before someone gets sick.
