I canned beef broth last year (made my own broth and then pressure canned in pint Ball jar with Ball lids following Ball instructions, stored with rings off). Today I opened a jar and it had this blackish spot on the underside of the lid. It really seems like something burnt and not mold. It looks like this because I scratched at it some to determine that, so it’s scratched away and some of the charcoal got in the droplets of broth in the lid. Lid was still fully sealed when I opened it, popped fine, smelled fine.
Is this just that something more solid in the broth got on the lid and burned during processing? I really hope this isn’t a problem because I’d already poured the jar into my soup before I saw the lid.

That looks more like corrosion (rust) to me
Normal and common.
“What causes black spots to appear on the underside of metal lids?
Natural compounds in some foods cause brown or black deposits on the underside of the lid. This deposit is harmless and does not mean the food is unsafe to eat”
