Rooster & Owl, 1 Michelin Star, Washington D.C.; “Choose Your Own” Tasting menu $95pp, Scallop Supplement, Add-on Course, 2 Cocktails, 1 glass of wine $311.30 Atmosphere – Casual and relaxed yet upscale. There is a small bar that seats six in front of where you enter near the host stand, semi-open kitchen to the side with seating in front of where staff walk behind open shelves. Distributed audio was not particularly great, Sonos speakers were used so there was a noticeable directionality of the music that was being played making it difficult to hear conversation at times. Service – While sitting at the bar for dinner offered nice energy, the service was interesting because there didn’t seem to be much uniformity. We were served from behind the bar, as well as from behind us, which made service sometimes awkward. Food – Fantastic variety of food options and seemed to accommodate a guest’s dietary restrictions accordingly beside us and offered substitutions where they could. everything tasted great and was seasoned well. No let down for food but the scallops were a star of the show. Overall – Price for quality and quantity of food and drink is what should be expected form a 1 Michelin star restaurant. Awesome experience and would highly recommend to pickier persons that are afraid of true “omakase” tasting menus.
