  1. In Spain a Cortado and a Café con Leche are prepared the same way, the only difference is that Café con Leche has more milk. Not sure where these differences in the milk preparation and the amount of coffee come from

Why is there the brewed coffee, but not ristretto

  3. the_pianist91

Can we have one with international measurements?

It kills me when I order a cappuccino in a coffee shop and they ask me “What size?”

  5. creedz286

So if I want to make a flat white I have to extract 57 grams of espresso?

  6. ScepticMatt

The Vionnois would be called “kapuziner” in Vienna. The Kapuziner was then adaped as cappuccino in Italy

  7. What’s the difference between foamed milk and steamed milk???

  8. wiggum1328

Can you post a link to a high resolution version of this?

my “cappuccino” is 40-45 grams of espresso and 80 grams of milk foam made in the electric milk frother))

As an americano drinker, I’ve recently been converted to long blacks. Reverse order, hot water first then espresso second, and the crema sits on top… The difference in flavor is very noticeable. Shout-out to Australian cafes for showing me the way.

More than honorable mentions to the following:

*Café Corretto* – Espresso & grappa, brandy, sambuca, etc

*Café Bombón* – 1:1 espresso and condensed milk

Add frothed milk and Liquor 43 to that and you have a *Barraquito*.

But, and I might be ignorant here, isn’t a cortado equal amounts of espresso and milk? In grams anyway?

Cafe macchiato? I’ve always gone espresso macchiato and latte macchiato to differentiate.

Only an American ruins a perfectly good shot of espresso. Oh- or Starbucks

Where’s my hazelnut latte with Nutella, a pump of peppermint syrup, three shakes of mocha dust, whipped cream, and unicorn’s sneeze?

  16. Nothing here is right, nothing here is wrong. Espresso drink definitions are massively contentious.

But that’s what you get with the most ubiquitous drink on the planet.

  17. I can’t be the only person who hates these kinds of charts, right?

The modern concept of a lot of these drinks changes from person to person, cafe to cafe. there is no one single definition of almost any of these drinks anymore. 6 different people from different continents will have 6 different definitions of what a Flat White, Cappuccino, Latte, Cortado, Picollo, etc all are. some of them are the exact same thing pretty often.

Like the cappuccino in the image here for example; Listed as a rule of 3rds, when it never is quite that. 2oz of espresso would be a 60g shot. No cafe, and most people at home, are NOT pulling 60g shots. and then the 2oz milk 2oz foam thing? never seen that once truly be a thing in my life. even the DRY capp is never all foam unless you specifically scoop out all the foam directly on to the espresso which uh honestly? not that tasty.

sorry for the rant, these kinds of images just lack sense to me lmao

I was at Victrola Coffee Roasters in Seattle enjoying a cup when a customer came in and asked for a macchiato. The barista replied something along the lines of “ok just know that we make, like, a real macchiato, not whatever that thing is that Starbucks sells.”

I think they changed their order to a vanilla latte.

Sent picture to my mom for reference (thanks!) along with this message:
“Of course, the angry internet people in the espresso subReddit are up in arms & arguing vociferously about all the little details.”
