I got my pressure canner four days ago, and I have done a batch of beans every night since, to learn how it works.
I have washed my canner twice, and now this stain on the top, around the steam valve, won’t come off! What can I do to clean this, and prevent it from happening in the future??

It’s just hard water stains, and there are a million products to treat those. Vinegar works as well.

You can add cream of tartar to your canning water. You might try cleaning with cream of tartar and water. Aluminum is a delicate metal, and you don’t want to make a habit of degrading it.

  4. I get something like this but more rust coloured (I have a high iron level in my water). If it doesn’t scrub off then you can try vinegar like others said or maybe CLR cleaner (this removes calcium, lime and rust)

Otherwise, it really won’t hurt the lid

As others have said it’s just a result of hard water. Best ways to prevent it would be to use distilled water or move to a place with softer water
