Blue by Eric Ripert, Grand Cayman Island, Ritz-Carlton Resort
The ‘Eric Ripert’ tasting menu 295 KYD pp, 3 cocktails and 1 glass of wine 95 KYD, auto 20% service charge 137 KYD, Total = 822 KYD (Exchange rate per hotel, 1KYD = 1.25 USD)(822KYD = 1027.50 USD)
Atmosphere – My wife and I both agreed that the whole decor seemed a bit outdated, opened in 2006 and still feels like it. The lighting was terrible, there were tables with zero light and tables that were completely blasted with lighting. The acoustics were just as bad, very loud with seemingly no sound dampening where we were sat. There was a couple in the restaurant that had a photographer taking photos of them at their table with a lighting setup and everything. I think that the restaurant should have stopped that right away but they didn’t, thankfully it only lasted 15 minutes, still obnoxious.
Service – Nothing but the best. Very attentive and accommodating but not bothering. They were ultra concerned that I asked to keep hold of the wine and alcohol menu for later in the meal to order another drink, 5 different people wanted to take it away. My wife left for the restroom and a service came, the server brought cloches to cover our food and maintain warmth. A bunch of fine detail and little touches that were nice.
Food – Great food with great flavor. The servers sauce your food table-side, asked for a little extra sauce the first time, after that they left the sauce carafe with every course the rest of the meal. Sauces were flavorful and spot on, could have drank them from the carafe but I restrained myself and sopped them up with bread.
Overall – I actually went here with my parents when I was younger, in 2007, just a year after it opened, at this age I did not really appreciate it at the time but remember that it was good but wanted more food after the meal because I was still hungry (didn’t get the tasting menu). I knew this was going to be a bit of an extra, even for Grand Cayman, splurge of a meal to try again when I can more so appreciate it. I enjoyed the food and service but could recommend so many more better restaurants on the island that for the price of this meal alone you could go to for a whole week. Glad we went, had a great time with my wife but we won’t be going again (probably won’t ever be going to Le Bernardin either).

I had no idea you could get LB signature dishes in Grand Cayman. I’m curious if anyone has eaten at both and compared.

I never thought to ask for extra sauce at LB and now I really want to go back in hopes that they’d leave the carafe. I could have a meal of just dipping bread in their sauces

My husband and I were there some years ago. Not so much. Not so much. Would not recommend it.
