6-course tasting menu in this one star in Frankfurt’s (in-)famous Bahnhofsviertel. Lovely modern and spacious interior with an open kitchen. The restaurant originally started as a wine bar (hence the name), but gradually shifted its focus to serving food. That being said, the wine list is still quite spectacular. Unfortunately, we both couldn’t drink that night, but that way we could fully focus on the food. But I’m glad the restaurant preserved its casual bar atmosphere.

The menu’s ingredients are for the most part from regional/local sources with some minor exceptions like dashi, ponzu or pineapple. I always appreciate this effort, because Germany is not as blessed as some other European countries when it comes to locally sourced food (or flavors), so it takes a bit of extra creativity. For the most part, I’d say the menu was a success. The salmon, celery and cod being particularly great. Bit disappointed by the desert, because apples are too omnipresent in German cuisine to really make them memorable – and for only one desert course, it was a bit too small for my liking, but the sour cream ice was delicious.

It’s really unfortunate that you couldn’t drink. I live 45 minutes away from this place and I’ve been there 4 or 5 times. Their wine pairing is what makes this restaurant unique.
