Wonderful Omakase dinner! A 13/14-course meal comprised of 2 appetizers, 11 pieces of sushi, and miso soup.
The quality of the food is exceptional; the ingredients were incredibly fresh.
Every piece of sushi was delicious, with the almost ideal ratio of rice to fish, complemented by well-balanced soy sauce in just the right amount, along with excellent vinegar ratio and rice temperature.
Each bite showcased the delicate balance of flavors and textures.
The owner/chef was very friendly and explain every sushi and instructions on how to properly enjoy them.
Note: they don’t specify whether to eat the sushi with your hands or chopsticks; therefore it’s based on personal preference.
There is a minimum requirement of one drink per person.
Cost to Performance: The CP value is exceptionally high. At just $80 USD, you receive a 13/14-course omakase dinner, a price difficult to beat in Kyoto considering the quality of sushi, both in terms of ingredients and taste.
During my visit, the restaurant was fully booked, with a maximum of 8 guests per sitting, if I recall correctly; however, everyone were foreigners (asian).
Note: Despite predominantly having foreign customers during my visit, the restaurant is certainly not a tourist trap. Having dined at numerous omakase restaurants in Japan and across Asia, I can tell you the sushi is of exceptional quality and “authenticity*”.
*similar experience to many local omakase restuarants.
Personal Rating: 9/10, primarily due to the outstanding CP ratio. I would describe the taste and quality as nearly comparable to that of a one-Michelin-star omakase experience.
Therefore, I highly recommend this restaurant if you are new to the omakase experience or a novice, and/or if you want to enjoy high-quality sushi at a very affordable price. Just don’t expect the sushi to be mind-blowing like a $250+ omakase experience.
