I recently visited Craft Omakase which is Austin’s newest sushi omakase experience and correct me if I’m wrong, but this may be the largest tasting menu in the city coming in at 22 courses (+ a welcome cocktail) at $175/pp before tax and tip.
I had a great time and wanted to give you a recount of my experience:
Chef Charlie along with much of the staff are alumni of Uchiko and so they have a good understanding of what sushi entails.
Here they understand that to entrust in the chef is a trait you have to earn and not be given and it’s evident in the small details throughout that they care for the customer. They want you to come back – they don’t want this to be a one and done.
Small details that stuck out to me:
– No supplemental courses. Chef believes that what you pay is what you get and that you shouldn’t be pressured into paying more for more bites
– The use of unscented soap in the bathrooms because they are aware that because you eat the nigiri with your hands, you don’t want to be bombarded by the smell of lavender for example as you go throughout the course.
All in all, I had a stellar time here! I definitely would come back.
