Been really craving omakase lately, and I comes down to list of 4, icca, noz, yoshino, and mumi. Is there any must-try places I am missing? price is not part of the consideration.

    1) Masa
    2) Icca
    3) Noda
    4) Yoshino
    5) Nakaji

Can forget about Noz, it’s expensive for their boring execution, limited fish, shitty chef attitude n overall mediocrity. Same goes for Nakazawa…

Masa if money is not a problem, otherwise ICCA more than suffice both tastebuds n value for money. Noda’s appetizers are amazing and the atmosphere is out of this world. Nakaji’s sushi part is alotttt better than their appetizers and chef is hilarious. Yoshino chefs are fun too but their appetizers n sushi’s are hit n miss, they have quite a good variety but some execution may not be the best for the dish for instance they served fried ankimo which is such a waste of ankimo 😅

For me, the top tier, in no particular order is:
    -Yoshino
    -Noz
    -icca
    -Shion 69 Leonard

Followed closely by (also not in any order)
    -Noz 17
    -Ichimura
    -Nakaji

To be fair I have not been to
    -The Den @ Azabu
    -Joji
    -Noda

But have heard great things about all three.

Recently went to Sushi Yolo on 57 Street and it was outstanding

  5. Stevie212

Although it’s not fine dining – I will proudly say pound-for-pound, Sushi by M has a fantastic omakase menu at an outstanding price

  6. Resident_Analysis370

First time I’ve heard of Sushi Mumi.

  7. Wiff_Tanner

If you’re cool with trekking into Queens, Sushi On Me is incredible

What do people think of Zuma?

I would recommend it but am no expert

  9. iheartaginganddying

Shinn East and Thirteen Water are both incredible omakase spots

  10. kathiag96

Bar Miller – owned by the same chef that owns Rosella.

i do not do omakase often, so i’m not sure where it falls on people’s radars, but i had sushi blossoms yesterday. it was an amazing experience. i opted in for the premium option ($128), which was 17 courses that were each delicious!

Is OP scared of other boroughs?

That Place in Astoria is phenomenal, and comes with unlimited Sake. Last time we went was maybe $160 a person, and absolutely worth it.

Also in Astoria is Koyo, which is great. Though I haven’t been since the head chef moved to Manhattan.

  13. Noz and Ichimura are the best I’ve had. Ichimura felt a little more special since it was so intimate. When I ate there it was just me, a friend and one other couple.

Just did a 17 course omakase at Ueki this past weekend and it was amazing!

  15. mcgovern-w

Sushi W on the UES is affordable and absolutely delicious; less fancy but who cares

I recently tried Neta Shari which is really out of the way but is my new favorite. I actually think since it’s further out in Brooklyn you end up getting more value for your money. They seem to focus a ton on dry aging fish and the flavor profile was unique and a pleasant surprise relative to other offerings in that price range.

Tempura omakase at Secchu Yokota in the East Village

  18. IveGotStockinOptions

Studio 151. The omakase sushi bar experience is special. Despite being a “speakeasy” type place, there is nothing gimmicky at all.

  19. Sufficient-Lead-8518

Sushi Nonaka in UWS or Sushi Teru in West Village

  20. Highly recommend Noda.

Fuku omakase is also fantastic for a great time

  21. AreBonitaFishBig

Why is no one mentioning nakazawa? I haven’t been in years but it used to be one of the best, has it gone down in the rankings?

  22. Newyorker2710

Thirteen Water, Sushi Nonaka, Zen Omakase.

Sushi Noz is highly overrated, they need help with their knife work among other things especially when charging those prices.

  23. slippyslaw

No. Omakase is an overrated buzz in the USA. A well-trained crew should be as good as their lead chef.

  24. Haven’t been to many so not sure how it staked up to others, but I really like Sushit Kaito on the UWS!

  25. Yes, you’re missing Shion 69 Leonard, The Den at Sushi Azabu (try the new 16 course nigiri menu with Head Chef Terado-San served on Fridays and Saturdays), and Saturday lunch at Sushi Ikumi for $150 (best priced sushi in NYC).

And you’re missing Sushi Sho, but it may be a few months until you’re able to get in.

Nakaji is also an option but it’s best to go with a regular customer.

  26. Old-Scene2963

Unpopular opinion , the Omakase in NYC is the biggest scam going and I will no longer participate. For reference I have been to every place you named and some you never heard of or don’t exist anymore. I have been eating sushi since 1983 in NYC and around the world. If you wanna go for the ” experience ” I guess , but all of these places have turned into a money grab.

I went to Matsunori recently and it was very good. Fair price, excellent quality, creative concoctions.
