We had a really nice meal here. Very intimate setting. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing. From start to finish the kitchen flowed like a symphony. I can’t imagine these guys will stick at one star for long.

The restaurant itself was beautifully designed. Muted interior colours with the odd piece of art or figurine around the walls or counter. You’re greeted at the door by chef’s wife, who like everyone else, is impeccably well put together. She and the rest of the front of the house did a great job. Service was great, pacing was great.

Food was all delicious and plated beautifully. Most food was cooked over fire. Flavours were all absolutely delicious. Some subtle, some punchy. Almost everything was fish based. We did get some of the best duck we’ve ever had outside of 11 Madison park. Their snacks and desserts were so good. They really made the meal special.

What shone the most for us was the wine. We had our first Japanese wine here, a delicious white from the north. The wine program was a good blend of traditional and natural, all producers we hadn’t heard of. We loved the it. The Somm was so good. His passion was very obvious and he just aced it. We didn’t expect it to be so good.

Overall, just an amazing experience here. So glad we visited. I’d guess the next time we return to Kyoto this won’t have only one star.

Loved our dinner there. Service and the NA pairing were both special.

I went to Koke last year, really phenomenal. Loved that you could also get the tea pairings as well as wine.

Loved my meal here, one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve been too. So many little details.
