Went to Funzis in the East Village back in November and thought it was incredible. Kenji and Portnoy both co-signed. I thought it was the next popular NYC slice shop. It’s been closed recently. Anyone know what happened or if they will reopen?

One of those guys is a culinary treasure, and the other is a shitstain named Portnoy who doesn’t know fuck all about pizza.
Per their website it seems like they’re rebranding to St Marks Pizzeria so maybe closed while they do that?

Wow ! I was looking forward to trying them, heard some of their desserts were good. Anyone able to comment on how good the pizza was?
Pizza was pretty good, the 70s decor was repug. It just looked and felt dirty, and having the tables never cleaned only added to that.
It may be coming back under a new name. The tomato pie at Funzi’s was instantly one of my favorite slices in the city.

They are rebranding as most people have said but I think they are losing their main chef. So the pizza will most likely be different. The pizza maker is trying to open his own spot if I recall correctly.
