Nothing says picnic quite like homemade macaroni salad. This is my version of Amish style macaroni salad. I have shared this recipe before. Several years ago and the video is old, poor quality and very, very long. Unnecessarily long. So I decided it was time for an upgrade. This salad is a favorite of a lot of my long time viewers and I know if you are new to my channel, you are going to love it as well. So lets make some Amish macaroni salad that will be perfect for your Easter weekend picnic, potluck or gathering!

Over the years I have gotten a lot of questions regarding what makes this recipe or any recipe that I call “Amish style” Amish. In the case of this macaroni salad the answer is simple. The tangy, sweet and sour dressing that is mixed in is very indicative of the cuisine of the Amish. They are primarily of German descent and the traditions of their linage come through in a lot of their cooking. My maternal grandmother “Nanny” was pure German and she made a lot of sweet and sour things. The tangy creamy dressing in this salad is one you will find a lot in Amish salads of the same nature. That’s my answer and I am stickin’ to it!

This macaroni salad brings together simple elbow macaroni with a creamy, mayonnaise based dressing that has sugar, cider vinegar and spices added to it. The addition of lots of crunchy sweet veggies is also a great change from other plain salads. Red and green bell pepper, sweet onion and celery add crunch flavor and bite to this salad. We add spices in to boost the flavor even further. Don’t forget the celery seed!

I always add chopped, hard cooked eggs to my salad and you can choose to add more or leave them out if you don’t like them. You can add to or take away from this salad as you like. It is very flexible. However the dressing is what makes this Amish so I would not recommend fiddling with that too much.

The prep here is simple. Chop, dice, boil, rinse whisk, mix the food together. I like to allow the salad to rest in the fridge for at least a couple of hours before serving to meld the flavors to tasty perfection. It is awesome the next day so if you are preparing this for an event make it the day before. Then you can adjust the dressing if you feel like you need to add a bit more after it has been absorbed by the macaroni.

I know that you will love the crunch of this salad! The vegetables remain crunchy even after sitting for a while. Even if this salad is not the picture of healthy, I think it still qualifies with all the great vegetables! I think that this will be a hit no matter where you share it! If you are one of my tried and true kitchen friends, and love this salad, please be sure to leave me a comment and let me know how you like this!

I hope you give this delicious Amish style macaroni salad a try some time soon and I hope you love it!

Happy Eating!

Hi everyone welcome back to my kitchen today is the perfect day to be making this video over again today I’m gonna share with you How I make my really popular Amish style macaroni Salad I’ve uploaded a video of this about seven years ago and people absolutely love it I get people who tell me all the time This is one of my regular go-to macaroni salad recipes But that video is old and is long and is painful So we’re gonna remake it for you today Because this is the perfect weekend To pull out all those lovely picnic salad recipes, and I hope that you give it a try And I can’t wait to show you how this all comes together We’re gonna go over all of the ingredients some of you may already be familiar with this recipe This is my Amish style macaroni salad I have posted this several years ago. I think I? Think in 2011 that would make this seven year old recipe originally posted the quality of the video is not as nice as I would like it to have been and it’s very long much longer than it needs to be and I was just kind of haphazard in the kitchen at that point I wasn’t setting everything up, so I’m making you a nicer version today and Hopefully you will enjoy this just as much and for those of you who might be new to my kitchen I hope that you enjoy this recipe this is the perfect weekend being Easter weekend for a great macaroni salad recipe We’re gonna start with 4 cups of cooked macaroni. This is elbow macaroni You can really use whatever small cut macaroni you prefer And then we’re going to move on to our vegetables. I have 1/2 a cup each of chopped celery chopped sweet onion chopped green bell pepper chopped red bell pepper I Have two hard cooked eggs that I chopped as well. I have one cup of good-quality mayonnaise a tablespoon of granulated sugar 2 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and then our seasonings I have a half a teaspoon each onion powder garlic Powder salt pepper and celery seed you can adjust that to your liking whatever you prefer Then you can just go with it I’m gonna go ahead and just kind of dump all of our veggies in here, and then we’ll build our dressing so celery red and green bell pepper Onion our chopped egg, and I’ll just set this aside now for the dressing I’m just gonna go ahead and put all of these ingredients in here sugar Cider vinegar you can adjust this to your liking as far as sweetness goes and add either more or less sugar It’s up to you, and then our seasonings Everything goes in there, and we’re just gonna give this a good whisk and that’s it This is not as thin as a coleslaw dressing you need it to be a little bit thicker because you have to remember all of these veggies and this wet macaroni Are going to actually add some water into this all we’re gonna Do is take this dressing and pour it over all this in the bowl, and then we’re just gonna stir this up together. Oh? My gosh this smells incredible You know a lot of times I just make macaroni salad plain my traditional way is just with macaroni Eggs a little bit of onion and some chopped celery with mayonnaise and you know salt pepper onion powder and celery seed but This really is a nice change Rick, and I are the only ones who like it this way So we’ll be eating this for lunch for the next few days, but that’s okay This is always best if it is left to sit for a couple of hours before you eat it So that the macaroni absorbs the dressing and everything tastes amazing But let’s give this a taste just to make sure all of our flavors or where we want them That’s so yummy! So that is how simple it is to make an Amish style? Macaroni salad it has a sweet and sour taste to it with the addition of a little bit of sugar and the vinegar We really love this We don’t make this very often But it was time to make it because we’re gonna be having some burgers for dinner And this is gonna be a great side to go along with it I hope you enjoyed today’s video, and if you did please consider giving me a thumbs up if you’re new to my kitchen welcome It’s always a pleasure to welcome new friends I hope you stick around and I hope that you hit the subscribe button if you are tried-and-true member of the Noreen’s kitchen family Please be sure to go down next to the subscribe button and hit the bell Notification button we don’t want any of you to miss out on all the real food for real people Real easy recipes that we present all the time right here on our YouTube channel and straight from our kitchen I hope you give this Amish style macaroni salad recipe a try And if you are one of my tried and true who have tried this in the past and loved it Please leave me a comment down below and tell me what your favourite thing is about it I hope that you give it a try, and I hope you love it and until next time. 1. Hey Noreen, I love watching your videos. I wanted to ask you if you know what happened to Bexar Prepper?? Im asking because I used to watch her also and was wondering what happened to her?

  2. Hi Noreen. Looks delicious. I’ll have to give your version a try. I used to make something like this years ago – with frozen vegetables (!!!) – but had forgotten all about it!! Looking forward to your “Kitchen Table Chat” tomorrow night with Linda’s Pantry!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️

  3. I like to always make a little extra dressing for macaroni, potato salads, and Cole slaw. Because it never fails, it looks great when you put it into the refrigerator but when you take it out a few hours later the dressing has been absorbed! Enter, extra dressing.

  4. Thank you for sharing this recipe, my family and I enjoyed the previous recipe but it was delicious !! 🙂

  5. I absolutely love your older and longer videos. I watch them like sitcoms. It’s what made you relatable. They remind me of a cooking talk show. But don’t get me wrong I love your new stuff too. P.s. I just shared this link to a frugal group I’m in.

  6. I've been making this recipe for years from your original video. We absolutely love it! Your ratios are perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. Your ice cube trick in the first video is invaluable though. Thanks for the update, and thanks for this amazing recipe!

  7. I made your Amish Macaroni Salad today and I had all of the Seasonings except for the Cracked Black Pepper but I did have the Ground Black Pepper on hand. Does the Cracked Black Pepper make a difference between the Ground Black Pepper??

  8. Ms. Noreen love this recipe!! Found it years ago and it comes out amazing everytime
