My uncle went to Japan recently and brought me these small fish…
I tried them by themselves and they’re kinda too sweet, they mostly just taste like vinegar and seaweeds. Are they supposed to be eaten like that, or can you prepare them in some way? I wouldn’t want to let them go bad.

Those tsukudani things are put on top of rice to eat together with rice, which usually have little taste. That’s why some Japanese foods have strong taste.
