I've had a strong burger month since my last post. Below is the link to the map that I always update in real-time.

Burgers I've eaten since my last post – ranked:

Raoul's (Repeat): 10/10 – I'm really not sure this burger will ever be topped for me. It's perfect every single time. I like to bring people here every chance I can, and I will continue to do so.

Rolo's (Repeat): 9/10 – I decided to go back quickly after my last visit to go with some friends. It was even better this time. I've moved this up to my 2nd ranked burger in the city. It's a must-try. They only serve about 30 a day so you need to get there at those 5/6 pm reservations, but it's worth it.

Minetta Tavern (Repeat): 9/10 – I think I've decided I actually like the cheaper burger over the Black Label burger. Both are great, but the Black Label is almost too rich. While still amazing, I have bumped this down to my 5th-ranked spot.

Hamburger America (Repeat): 8/10 – I went to try the special Butter Burger they had this month. I was tasting butter in my mouth for days, but it was still excellent. I love this place and actually bumped it up to crack my top ten. I can't wait to try future monthly specials here.

Sailor: 8/10 – I got a last-second brunch reservation here and couldn't pass it up. We shared a french toast to start which was spectacular. The fries here are great. Amazing service as well. This burger stands on its own. It has a unique lighter bun than I'm used to. The meat was well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. The melted onions give the burger some great flavor, but I can't help but compare them to the onions on the Rolo's burger which are actually way more flavorful. Still a big recommendation and now I need to go back and try their dinner menu.

Burgerhead: 7/10 – This brand-new place surprised me. I walked by with some friends and decided to give it a go. I had pretty low expectations, but I was shocked at how wrong I was. It's a small fast-casual style restaurant that slings out its burgers quickly. The whole combination worked well together. I also tried the chili fries and loved the chili so much that next time i might try the chili burger they offer.

Shake Shack (Repeat): 6/10 – I love trying their special burgers as they get released. This time was the Korean BBQ burger. It was not bad, but not one of my favorites. Sticking to the classic Smokeshack.

99 Burger @ Yankee Stadium: 5/10 – I heard a lot about this burger last year. They finally changed the amount they made so more people could enjoy the burger. Definitely one of my favorite items now at the stadium, but their food options leave a lot to be desired so it's not saying much. I enjoyed the sauce and it was quite filling for my $19.99. Would eat again at a future game.

Schnipper's: 4/10 – I've always wanted to try this place. It was fine. Mostly bland, pretty basic fast-food burger. Better than some real fast food chains, but I don't think I would return.

Chicago trip:

I spent a weekend in Chicago and managed to try two burgers I had seen good reviews on.

Trivoli Tavern: 9/10 – I may be overrated this as well as its sister restaurant Bavette's (also 9/10) but Hogsalt restaurants (Four Charles, Au Cheval) just know their way around a burger. This one just melts in your mouth. They cut it in 1/4s so it's easy to share. If I'm ever back I am making sure to get a whole one for myself though.

The Gage: 6/10 – I tried the well-reviewed venison burger here. It was well-cooked and juicy but lacked a bit in the flavor department. Probably would have been better with beef.

Let me know any places you don't see on my map that I need to try still!

I’m a big fan of Lovely’s Old Fashioned (9th and 45th). There are a couple of new burger places in Hells Kitchen I’ve yet to try (so can’t say if they’re worth it): Cubby’s (10th and 45th) and Fat Boy’s (9th and 56th)

Maybe it just wasn’t my thing but I didn’t really enjoy the Raoul’s burger. Objectively a good burger but there was something about the pepper crust that didn’t match with my palette.

Hamburger America also wasn’t really my thing – if I want that type of burger and taste good and feel greasy after I’d go to 7th street.

Au cheval on the other hand was absolutely incredible. I try out these places with a few friends and I know it’s amazing when we finish our food in silence.

Have always preferred a good pub flame broiled over any of the bougie ones

    Walkers, Hurleys, McHales are solid.

Hamburger America is yet another in a long line of generic basic bitch smash burger joints. Your top 3 are good though. Red Hook Tavern is my personal fave.

Gramercy only 6? It was my go to choice when I will be visiting NYC this summer. What others think? 🙂

It’s amazing to me that everyone–food media, included–is sleeping on the txuleburger at Leña in Mercado Little Spain.

  15. Surprised to not see it on there: Wollensky Burger. Also served at their bar. My favorite steakhouse burger in the city.

Also I’ve heard excellent things about Red Hook Tavern and Henry St Public by me has an excellent one

I would add the 4 Charles burger to the need to try list. The place is impossible to get a table at, but you can get the burger as takeout
