I really enjoy baking, and I especially enjoy baking sweets. Since I gave birth last November, my hormones went all funky and I can no longer crave nor stomach sweets!! So whatever I bake usually goes to my husband, but he couldn’t tackle this in time and the strawberries started to mold 🥲

Next time, cut it into single serving size pieces and freeze them.

You can freeze the iced pieces or free one of the layers and some icing for another time. I do this with a carrot cake that makes 3 layers.

  3. Looks good. The proper way to mourn this luscious looking cake would be to bake one. Could you share the recipe? Yum! Thank you!

That’s sad; it looks so good! When I was nursing, I liked to have a pound cake in the freezer that I could take a small slice off when I needed it. I’d enjoy it on the couch while the kids got some rest time. Nice memories.

Ask your neighbors if they want some, or have your husband bring them to work to share to his co-workers.

I hate overly sweet things so whenever I bake I do less than half the sugar. It usually doesn’t effect how it turns out

Sympathies. Pregnancy and childbirth really does such weird things to you! I looooove chocolate but ended up getting nauseated by it while pregnant with my first kid, I was horrified that even my very nice dark chocolates tasted like chalk, I was so sad and went into a little existential spiral about who really am I and how much of myself can I trust to be me since I no longer recognized my body…

And I totally get not tossing it until you had to because sometimes just POOF you get this one tiny window when you CRAVE the things you love and you can finally eat it again!

Hang in there, best of luck and congrats! Things even out eventually and/or you find a “new normal”.

I used to bake and bring into the office and it was just so easy to hand off baked goods. Now my office is very spread out into different locations, so it just doesn’t work out. Took me a while to figure out how to properly adjust what recipes could be made smaller and which could freeze well etc.

Yeah, we stopped doing fruit on cakes for the same reason. Darn mold

Next time, wash your strawberries in a vinegar-water solution. They will last longer

Call me next time and I’ll make sure you don’t have to toss anything out

I got 6″ cake tins for a similar reason. Smaller cakes for smaller sweets appetites!

  14. Mayve this is dumb, I don’t know, but couldn’t you just remove the strawberries and stick the rest of the cake in the fridge? A smidge of mold on top of food is not really the end of the world if it can be removed/cut off (at least to me lmao)

You can freeze the cake without the strawberry. Cut it into single serving portions and freeze them or he can take it to work. I make cakes and cut them into thirds and give some to my bro and his wife and some to my sister and her daughter. I never ever throw food out!

Edited to change icing to strawberry.
