Have you tried this brand of chips? They were almost a dollar cheaper, so I thought I’d give them a try.

Butterscotch, yes.

I like the white chips. They’re good to eat a few while baking too lol
Asprinkleofglitter7
I’ve used the milk chocolate and semi sweet chips, I thought they tasted horrible and decided they were not worth the price. Are the other flavors better?
Chemical_Actuary_190
Those are the bottom of the barrel in my opinion, even worse than Nestle. They taste terrible and don’t melt properly. I get either Ghirardelli or Guittard.

The butterscotch ones are fine. I hate white chocolate so I’ve never tried those. I wouldn’t bother with their semi-sweet, though, get the real stuff, there is a noticeable difference.
thesteveurkel
great value is likely a product made out of a nestle or hershey factory and labeled with the walmart brand. just sayin’. i doubt the ingredients or formulation would be any different from those brands.
monkey_trumpets
The reason these are so cheap is that they’re mainly filler. Look at the ingredients.

Walmart brand. Not if I can help it.

I have tried those chips, in particular the dark chocolate ones. I don’t like the taste but I don’t hate them either. On the other hand, my sister absolutely hates them, and she calls them the grimy chips. She won’t eat anything I bake with them. My other family members don’t seem to care. My sister who is quite picky prefers the nestle chocolate chips the best, so if I am baking something special, I always use those.

I haven’t tried the butterscotch but I love the white chocolate chips, I use them all the time!
Proper-Scallion-252
Every other month I would convince myself that the store brand chocolate chips were worth the dollar or two drop in price, but holy shit am I always constantly proving myself wrong.
Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips my brother, they will never steer you wrong.
myfairdrama
I use GV brand all the time. My baking gets rave reviews.
It’s expensive out there and I bake in bulk. If you’re doing smaller batches or really trying to impress, maybe Ghirardelli is the way to go, but GV is a perfectly fine option.
False-Can-6608
Depends on the occasion for me. Cheap ones will do from time to time. But for sharing, I usually get Ghirardelli.

I like Ghiradelli more, but don’t think they’re the best either. A lot of brands use similar ingredients, but some seem to be slightly different quantities. You get more of the dry milk flavor than some of the others. I haaaaate Lily’s and after looking at the ingredients, I guess I can see why. I like Target’s Good and Gather more and I assume the use of hydrogenated oil is what gives it a more buttery taste over Ghiradelli.

Last time I bought these they had a piece of metal which lucky I found because I used it for dipping

White chocolate isn’t chocolate it’s basically sweet milk but the butterscotch chips are good Wal mart is a good choice on occasion
FancyFrenchLady
Horrible! They don’t melt right either.
MrsVivi
My experience was that they don’t taste great and melt poorly.
eggbootycoughs
how do we feel about the target morsels?
Ok-Foot7577
I’m a snob and baking supplies are not something I cheap out on. If it doesn’t taste good what’s the point?
_OkError
Yes, I have them in my pantry right now. I was a little nervous too at first but that was 2 years ago and I still buy GV brand.
FluffMyGarfielf
I dont recommend any “white chocolate” that doesn’t contain cocoa butter. Theyre overly sweet and just taste like sugar chemical vanilla.
Pie_mode
I used the white chocolate chips and they dissolved into palm oil in my blondies.
Lazybunny_
I only buy these when baking for large groups, like work or kids’ parties. For smaller batches or myself I only use Ghirardelli. I don’t like any other type of chocolate and can tell the difference.
coffeequeer17
I generally avoid any “white baking chips” or “white morsels” and try to find ones that actually say white chocolate. These and the other mentioned don’t have enough cocoa butter to call it white chocolate, and I didn’t it affects the flavor and texture a lot. Especially in cookies, real white chocolate tends to stay creamy in the center. I find these harden all the way through after baking and don’t have the best flavor.
honestlyhopeful
May contain tilapia 😂 but a serious answer is I’ve tried the butterscotch ones and they taste chemically. I wouldn’t buy it again
Jilltro
I’m baffled by the comments saying these are good/fine. I’m all for saving money and I’m not a food snob at all but the GV butterscotch chips are straight up trash and I love butterscotch. Their chocolate chips aren’t good either. Never tried the white chocolate
MoulanRougeFae
I may be down voted but if I’m bothering to bake I’m using the high quality ingredients. The end result is only as good as the components that went into it. So I don’t use generic or lower tier ingredients for my baked goods.
