Instead of using the chocolate cupcake recipe from the link, I went the easy route and used a box of red velvet cake mix. I also added the chunks of dark chocolate to the cake batter rather than the cream cheese mixture. The cream cheese recipe and swirl method from the link worked soooo well! Next time I’ll try to make for prettier swirls.
