This steak was in your parents freezer while Bill Clinton was being impeached. I looked up significant things to happen that year and this was the first hit. On a side note, I graduated high school in ’97 and was in basic training a year after.

There’s a guy on Youtube called Steve1989MREInfo, whose whole schtick is to eat really old MREs, and I mean REALLY old. I’ve seen him eat MREs that are over 100 years old. He might be interested in that steak!

I was visiting my parents last year and my 73 year old father started cooking some mystery meat from the garage freezer. I looked at the packaging and it said ground bison 2001. He ate it. Didn’t get sick in the slightest.
I should also not that freezer has been through probably double digit power outages since 2001.

Thia reminds me that the typical consumer seldom realizes meat is not meant to be frozen in those retail packs. If they want to freeze, they need to repackage and hopefully vacuum seal. That steak is going to be horribly freezer-burnt. It will be edible (as in not kill you), but taste horrible.
