Had this prime brisket in the deep freezer for about 5 months. Last time I checked about to two months ago it still had vacuum so any time since then something in the deep freezer must’ve compromised the seal. I’m curious if anyone has any experience smoking a brisket in this condition. The darker black looking stuff looks to be pooled up blood. I think lol. I do plan on trimming it and getting rid of any oxidized meat. Thanks.

I’ve never personally cooked a brisket in this situation exactly but I’m sorry you’re better off just making it into dog food. If you want to keep that dream alive so ahead and cook it like you want to eat it but cook it without any ingredients a dog couldn’t eat because I’d sure rather be dividing it up after for dog food after I discovered it tasted like the inside of my freezer than I would putting it directly in the trash can…
I try to keep cuts like that in areas that won’t get jostled to try to avoid breaking the seal and you can always put the vacuum seal inside a freezer bag but sometimes you just get unlucky
Let it thaw and see how it looks before you go hacking on it. I think it looks fine for the most part.
It’s fine. I’ve roasted full animals that we’re in freezers for longer than 5 months that weren’t in a vacuum bag. Thaw it out slowly, trim anything that doesn’t look appetizing but you’re not going to get sick
Trim it up a little bit and it’s good to go. I sure as hell wouldn’t throw away prime beef.
