[Music] hey guys welcome to Collard Valley Cooks all you Collard Valley cookers today we are making some delicious Sloppy Joe’s good enough for your mama’s lunch okay we’re making this good enough for our Mama’s lunch we’re making this for Tammy Tammy’s working she’s working she’s actually working on a new cookbook this recipe Sloppy Joe’s is in our volume three all right so I’m going to chop up one medium onion and I’m going to chop up a half of a bell pepper now if you’ve never had a homemade sloppy joe then you need to try it out because these are a lot different than what you’re going to get from a can um and you’re really really really going to enjoy it if you haven’t tried it it’s really easy uh you’ve got a little bit of cleanup that you’re going to have to do when you cut these onions and bell peppers uh you want to cut them fairly you know you don’t really want to dice them you just want to chop them uh where they’re in chunks and uh when you cook it you’re going to cook it in with the ground beef so they’re going to be sauteed down pretty good and uh you know just depending on your preference whether or not you want to have these in large L ger or smaller chunks so you can see there about the amount that I used and that is a fresh bell pepper that we got from our garden we finally got some uh finally got some bell peppers in so uh you can see I’m Browning the ground beef here I’m going to add these to it and I’m going to let them continue to cook together make sure that your ground beef is um you know kind of finely chopped up there you don’t want big chunks of ground beef so you can just go through with a tool like this that we have on cter Valley cooks.com if you’re interested in one of those and uh make sure that your meat is cut up fine like you need it to be and once it’s all brown you are ready to go okay so I’ve got this that was just enough time for me to prep all of that stuff and let this brown really good now I’m going to get some of this grease off of here and this is a good little trick my cat is fussing I hear you Jade this is a good little trick for getting uh take you two or three paper towels that run down now Tammy adds a few things in there that are a little different than what a lot of people add but I’m promise you they’re good all right so I got my ground beef I got my onion I got my pepper two garlic cloves I Cho those up while you guys weren’t watching diced them up so I got two DIC garlic cloves in there all right and the rest we’re just going to add everything in there to it all right let’s see what else we got uh a little bit of olive oil which I don’t need uh two teaspoon of onion powder now even though there’s onion in there we do like to also have onion powder because we just really like the taste of onion powder in our house all right there’s one two okay so we got the onion powder we got a/4 teaspoon chili powder just kind of eyeball that we got teaspoon of black pepper there you go teaspoon salt three shakes of Worcester Shure sauce three shakes of Wester sure or what’s your sister wash your sister whatever you want to call this sauce werer all right 8 oz can of tomato sauce all right I’m G to turn this down just a touch mix up what we got in there a little bit for now still got more stuff to add don’t go anywhere there’s more okay 8 O of ketchup actually you know what before I put in the ketchup this is her super secret relish relish that is right sweet pickle relish she likes that um quar cup sweet pickle relish we just add that right in there then 8 oz ketchup okay and a tablespoon woohoo hey you’re supposed to shake your uh mustard up those of you that have never cooked before see that was a demonstration of what happens when you don’t shake up your mustard and I do things like that for you guys that have never cooked so you know cuz otherwise you wouldn’t have learned that but now you’ve learned it I’ve demonstrated it okay we just take all of this we’re going to mix it up good and we’re going to let it cook about 10 minutes It’ll reduce down some of course now Sloppy Joe’s are good no matter what you do it’s kind of hard to it’s like a hot dog it’s hard to mess it up but now there’s some hot dogs they’re better than others and there’s some Sloppy Joe’s that are better than others and I happen to think that this one is better than others it’s delish I’m going to cut it down on simmer actually you know what I’m not going to cut it down on S I’m going to let it cook cuz we’re going to let that stuff kind of reduce down a little bit so I’ll cook it on a low high simmer High simmer low low you know what I mean all right let’s let that cook in the meantime I didn’t have any regular buns I’ve got these kind of sausage buns I’m going to take these I’m going to butter them put them in air fryer and then we’ll have toasted buns and Sloppy Joe’s and it’s going to be good enough for your mama lunch good enough for your mom lunch good enough for your wife lunch good enough for Tammy of Collard Valley Cooks now I think the number one thing that we’ve had questions about in the past is the pickle relish uh the pickle gives it a little touch of sweet in there and uh it’s really good I’m not I’m not a big pickle fan I don’t eat a lot of pickles but that pickle relish cooked in there with it um if you try it you’ll be surprised you you probably really like it I like it of course now you can’t make this without thinking of that old Saturday not Liv skit that had Adam Sandler and Chris Farley where Chris Farley was the lunch lady and he did the lunch lady the lunch lady uh video oh Chris Farley could just walk in a room and I’d start laughing he don’t have to do anything uh but that was so funny and you know part of the song was that part where he was going sloppy Joe sloppy sloppy joe so we’re doing sloppy I wish I could dance I wish I look like Chris Farley right now just for a minute so I could dance around and do the sloppy joe just every once in a while in that 10 minutes give it a little stir around it’s thickening up really nice now that’s I got everything cleaned up see you got plenty of time to get everything cleaned up all right we got our bread toasted and this pair as well with a nice Coca-Cola and some lace potato chips yes sir and I’ve Ted Tammy into coming and doing the taste test so she’s on her way it’s time to face the music guys all right guys you can see that’s nice and thick it’s what you want you can’t make a sloppy joe too sloppy it’s going to get on your plate it’s going to get on you it’s going to get it’s just it’s going to get everywhere it’s sloppy it’s a sloppy joe okay guys here comes my supervisor somebody called my supervisor reported me so she’s going to taste the Sloppy Joe’s that are her recipe let’s see what she thinks and I see he’s got it on a hot dog bun it’s a it’s a sausage bun oh it is yes sausage okay I’m starving my recipe delicious it’s delicious and what’s so cool about it is it’s really good with the Coca-Cola oh yeah I already told them told them at pairs well with the Coca-Cola and laced potato chips yes and what’s even better is is it’s even like the next day it’s good today though it’s good on the first day but the second day it is it’s like chil it’s better the second day because then you don’t have to cook it pull it out of the refrigerator you just get to eat it that automatically makes it better good Coca-Cola all right guys he’s taking he’s treating me right while I’m working working on that new cook but well thanks for watching Collard Valley Cooks where we cook Tammy’s recipes like Tammy did like her mama did like we all do like we all do yes have a good day guys bye y’all thanks for watching we love you

  1. My husband loves sloppy joes, but next time we have it, I'm going to use your recipe because it looks so much better. I would have never thought of adding the sweet relish to it while it's cooking. Tonight though, I'm making your chuck roast with the Lipton onion mix in the crockpot! Last night, we had your chicken burrito skillet and mandarin orange cake for dessert. Loved BOTH!
We liked the chicken burrito much better in (wide) taco shells because it stays together and doesn't fall out of the taco and is easier to serve.
    Love your channel and recipes!

  2. Looks really yummy, I made sloppy joes last week. I used my last jar of tomatoes I canned last year .
I'm going to try it with the relish . I tried it in a recipe I saw for macaroni salad last year and was great .
Was great that Chris made you lunch …

  3. I have Never eaten or made canned Sloppy Joes!!! I always use brown sugar!!!! I'm going to try your recipe!!! God Bless Us All!!!

  4. I have not had Sloppy Joes since I was a kid. My mama used to make them a couple times a month when we were kids.
Looking forward to trying this recipe myself.
But… I plan to use a much deeper pan than Chris is using here lol I would have slopped my Sloppy Joe all over that stove in that shallow pan lol

  5. I do mine alot like that. But I use a bottle of heinz chili sauce instead of tomato sauce and more W sauce. No relish. Then I place it in a small crockpot all over .I add some brown sugar too. It's very good. You can make larger amount for a small gathering. People love these.

  6. I love your kitchen it’s beautiful clean that’s what I like those sloppy joes looks delicious ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  7. Good job there Chris ! You are a fine cook yourself. Thanks for another great idea for dinner. 👏🏻Have a great holiday weekend Chris and Tammy🇺🇸

  8. Always interesting to see everybody’s different versions. I don’t use ketchup in mine. Way too much sugar. I use tomato sauce, tomato paste, and a tbsp of brown sugar. I will give the pickle relish a try next time I make it though! I always squirt more yellow mustard on top of mine at the table. Love that hit the mustard gives ir!

  9. Chris, you are a comedian! It’s a wonder you aren’t cracking jokes while Tammy cooks and breaking her up!! Sweet couple. Look forward to that new condensed cookbook. I have never purchased one if the books but will definitely have to have this new one.

  10. I just made this and it was so good I ate four! Better than any canned sloppy joe I've tried and a few I thought were pretty darn good! If any of you aren't sure, I'm here to tell you it is delicious. Thanks, Tammy.

  11. You are such thoughtful teacher, Chris, the way you make the (mustard juice) mishap so we know what not to do 😂 I was a lunch lady for 20 years and every single time we made sloppy joes that stupid show was replayed in our heads EVERY TIME!! 😵‍💫🤪🙄. I never want to see or hear Adan Sandler and his stupid voice again!!!🤣 Never thought of putting relish in my sloppy joe but I certainly will now. The sweetness and the tartness of it will make an excellent edition. No one will really even know it's in there after it's all cooked down. Thanks for sharing and God bless you both!.❤

  12. I love watching Chris do this video. He certainly does not get all undone and just keeps on going. Thank you Chris and Tammy for a wonder time on this end. I will be making this recipe real soon as I love me some sloppy joes. 😋

  13. Lol. 😁. You both are such a delight! I can’t help but chuckle. The recipe looks mouth watering, so I will try it! Tammy, your hubby Chris told us this recipe for your sloppy Joe’s “ is the best of the best” , & with you tasting it, your smile & tummy rub backed up his words! I’m sure me & my husband will be rubbing our tummy’s too, with a big ole “ Mmmm.. Mmmm Good “shout out! Thank you Chris for preparing an all American great Sloppy Joe’s made up by the one & only , your lovely wife, Tammy! God bless! Deb. From Indiana. 🫶🙏.

  14. I got her a summer recipe she can put in her book pasta summer salad elbow pasta boiled eggs chopped bacon mayo mustard onion chopped up it is yummy ga girl summer salad

  15. looks good but you only added 1/2 cup of ketchup with the 1/4 cup measuring spoon that you used for the relish..thx

  16. The sloppy joes look yummy!! Good job Chris 😋😋. I have started to see a new woman posting recipes on YouTube, she says more people will be doing LIVE videos from now-on on ‘Collard Valley Cooks’, if so that is great I just thought it should be said to you guys. I like all your recipes and Chris very much, shame to have someone else steal your thunder..

  17. Looks good 👍 can you use any kind of peppers 🫑 I don’t care for the green peppers 🫑 this is my first time watching your videos 🎉 🎉❤

  18. I just bought all of your cookbooks about 2 months ago and I absolutely love them. They are perfect. The pages are such high-quality material, and the print is fantastic. I love the larger print. I am almost legally blind, and I can see the print without having to use a magnifying glass along with my glasses. I also love the spiral binder on them. This is what I call the perfect cookbook with the perfect recipes. I am waiting anxiously for the next one!

  19. If you don't like sweet pickles, do what I do. Put dark brown sugar in it. It gives it a depth…… that little "sumthin', sumthin'" that you can't quite put your finger on.
