During my trip to Japan last March, I brought an extra suitcase just for food and ceramics. One of my favorite finds was β€˜Chirimen Sansho,’ a delicious mix of dried young sardines and sansho berries simmered in soy sauce. It’s perfect for topping dishes or enjoying with white rice.

Growing up, my mom would crisp up the teeny tiny sardines and add them to onigiri (rice balls) for my lunch. Monkey see, monkey do, right? I packed these bad boys for lunch on my last fishing excursion. If you zoom in, you can see the fishie eyeballs πŸ‘€ 🐟
