  1. I went to Zurriola in Tokyo for dinner last month. The restaurant is in Ginza. The menu is Spanish food with a Japanese influence.

They offer three types of courses for dinner, a lower priced degustation course ($185 USD), a higher priced gastronomy course ($250) and a shorter and quicker version of the gastronomy course ($225). I did the shorter gastronomy course since I didn’t have as much time on this day. Overall, it was a good meal and enjoyed it. For me it feels like an average 2* restaurant at a good price. Though afterwards I noticed that they actually charged me for the slightly more expensive full gastronomy course instead of the shorter version of the gastronomy course.

    The courses were:

    Images 2 & 3 – Amuse bouche – bellpepper waffle and olive

    4 , 5, and 6 – Tapas: Asparagus, Firefly Squid, Red Clam

7 – Salmorejo – Spot shrimp and strawberry sorbet

8 – Smoked Caviar – hard shell clam’s pil pil sauce. The smoked caviar seems to be one of their signature items. It was very good.

9 – Densuke – Conger eel fritter, soquet foam

10 – Teppan grilled ‘pluma’ Iberian pork

11 – Fluid style shuffle with egg yolk and praline

12 – Homemade chocolate with chocolate tea

It’s the type of place where every dish was good but I think only the smoked caviar dish is something that I’ll actually remember. Overall, I recommend it if you’re in Tokyo, it wasn’t a difficult reservation, and the price is good relative to the food.

We went last year and felt underwhelmed. The food felt stuck in the 90s. The signature smoked caviar dish was way too salty. Blow out the palate salty. Service was good and all the other courses were fine, but this was more like a weak 1* than a 2* based on our experiences.
