Saw these at an Acme in New Jersey. Holy hell! I love a good steak but $75 for a porterhouse?

  1. Hell no. Thats a T bone, not even a porterhouse in my opinion

  2. Even in cattle country steak is really expensive which is surprising

I would….. at a nice restaurant. Where someone else cooks it for me.

Looking up Authenticity, they seem to to have a great marketing department.

    “Naturally handcrafted” meat.

Would be interested to hear how the meat actually tastes.

That doesn’t look horrible tbh. I wouldn’t buy it but porterhouses that thick are oddly hard to come by even at my nicer butchers. $37 isn’t horrible

Oh nvm it’s $74 lol. Nope. For $64 I can get a 3lb bone-in prime ribeye from my local fancy butcher, so this one would be a hard pass unless super discount

No, I’d go to my local farmer’s market and get trusted boeuf for a lower price.

That’s in Australian dollars right? Even then, who is that much of a sucker?

  8. Nah. I’m not a huge fan of strips or porterhouse. Plus, I’m happy with a choice/Angus cut and not paying that price for prime. If you’ve got money to burn, go for it.

Seems like the only dry age process was done in original package on shelf.

  10. And people ask why the budget grocer I work for doesn’t carry porterhouse or tbone

  11. jacksraging_bileduct

Nope, whole ribeye and NY strips go on sale in may area around Christmas and Easter, I pickup a couple and cut my own steaks vacuum seal and freeze.

  12. Hell naw, I can get prime ribeye for $23/lb from the local butcher.

No way on gods green earth. 37.50 per pound, yeah you can suck it

  14. ChocolateShot150

37.50 per pound? Holy shit, I can get tenderloin here for half that price

  15. Nedstarkclash

I’ll pay a lot of money for excellent cuts, but not those tbones masquerading as porterhouses.

One state over in PA my local grocery typically runs sales on porterhouse throughout the summer. Usually $5.99-6.99 per lb.

Does your grocery store have a lot of shrink? Seems like they need to jack up prices cause some of the porterhouses make their own way out of the store…

They are 2x this size for the same price at the butcher shop in Grand Central Station. And it’s because of the fillet. Plus, they’re dry aged.

  19. ACNE in NJ is super expensive. Every ACME I’ve been to over charges.

Clearly you have never been to a high end, fine dining steakhouse where it is just as easy to sell a $150 10 oz filet as it is to upsell bacon on a salad.

  21. No, frankly, if I’m getting a high-end cut, and paying that much, I’m going to an actual butcher. I know some stores do cut beef and then just vacuum seal it in store, but I don’t care, I want some old guy with a mustache and an apron.
