Have always wanted to make a quality steak but I could never bring myself to try for some reason. My final breaking point was during a diet that excluded red meat (along with other things) from my diet. During those 4 weeks of torture I joined this sub which made my cravings even worse. Yesterday I picked up this 2.8lbs tomahawk from the local butcher and gave into the sweet temptation I had been longing for.
Smoked on a Yoder at 200F until it reached a internal temp of 115. Cranked the heat on the smoker up to 530F and seared over the direct heat on aluminum grates with a final internal temp of 125. Was obviously a daunting first steak but thanks to the guidance of Dad, it turned out to be a delicious steak I could be proud of.

Nice job. I would be proud too
If you hadn’t of said this is your first steak I would have assumed you’ve been make them for years. I’d violate that steaks personal space with no remorse.

Bro, now that you’re hooked, you got to try other cuts.
Tomahawks are just fancy ribeye.
Picannah is really popular in Brazil and the rest of South America. You can buy a picannah roast and slice steaks
Chuck eye Steak. The step sister to the Ribeye. Tastes a lot like it and costs less.
Different cuts of sirloin.
Flat iron steaks aren’t too bad.
Skirt steak is used to make Tex Mex fajitas.
That tomahawk looks amazing! You done wel!. Now I’m hungry! Gotta spare?
10/10 you lying about this being your first
You nailed it.
Holy shit. I wasn’t prepared for that last pic. Perfection
Man, that looks good…I would love to make something like that, but I don’t have a grill…I’m wondering if you can cook one of those not on the grill…I have an air fryer, a Forman, oven…I don’t think those will make it turn out so good
Amazing
holy shit that looks good especially for the first one. the thermometer was the right move
Tomahawk for a first steak…. Makes sense.
first steak my dick
this is 5000 steaks in
Perfect !
I enjoy this cut but not frenched on the bone. The bone meat is extremely delicious and crisps up nicely
Liar.
Highly suspicious your first steak was a perfectly done tomahawk reverse seared on the smoker to perfection. if you’re lying for fake Internet points, screw you, if you’re being honest, very well done
Amazing
Excellent cook – obviously you did plenty of research and had guidance. This is also how I season my steaks – kosher salt, pepper, garlic powder. I sometimes add onion powder.
Your cut is just fair. Nice and thick, but not very good marbling. However it doesn’t really matter with how well you cooked it.
