I believe it is a type of mochi with a brown sugar syrup and toasted soybean powder. This photo was taken in Japan.

If I want to make this back in America, can I find the ingredients locally? What is the process on how to make it? Should I look for ingredient here in Japan prior to returning home?

This is an incredible dessert. We’ve had it in Kyoto and Tokyo and can’t get enough.

Thank you for any tips or advice on what it is called and how to make it.

In Japan, this is called “warabimochi”. One of types, “shingen mochi”, is very famous.

Outside Japan, you may get some clues with “raindrop cake”.
