“Canned” pickles? Came with the seal broke, botulism?

Water bath canned pickles are extremely common and it’s a perfectly safe method to preserve them.
The most important thing here is, why was the seal broken? If the jar was stored for a long period without being sealed, that’s not okay. In both these instances, the jar should be tossed.
Now, if they were sealed well and then someone opened them to eat some and then gave you the opened jar, that should be fine if they were stuck in the fridge after they were opened. You do want to make sure that they followed the [50/50 rule](https://www.healthycanning.com/50-50-rule-pickling/), which means that at least 50% of the liquid was vinegar of at least 5% acidity.
