When I was a a kid my Grandpa always ate this cheese and after not eating it for many years it has taken me back to those days. Anyone ever tried it before?

Yup, it was my dad’s favourite spread on top of warm buttered toast. Like a more sophisticated Cheez-Whiz.

Memory lane for me too! It was a regular in my parent’s house. My mom would request “red cheese” on my dad’s homemade sourdough toast for breakfast.

That was a cocktail hour staple when my grandparents visited me as a kid. By cocktail hour I mean a pour of Smirnoff on the rocks.

I loved the port wine cheese with the purple swirls in it. Such a comfort food for me!

    “Cold pack cheese food”

I’m intrigued. What’s the texture like? Is it spreadable?

Interesting, what region are you in that you’re buying this? I’m in New Hampshire and there is a lot of French-Canadians here and I’ve never seen that, but I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

Crazy memories. My parents used to break this out with crackers when guests came. I grew up thinking it was the “fancy” cheese.

For me, this is “the Christmas cheese” because we only ever had it as a Christmas treat

Aging myself here, but when I was a kid, it was sold in a brown pottery crock with a metal closure like you see on some old glass preserving jars. It was a special treat and excellent quality. It didnt melt like regular stretchy cheese either, but kinda bubbled. Was a favourite of my father’s, and sharp as it was, all us kids loved it too.

I had something similar to it at my sister’s house to spread on flat pretzels.

It makes amazing Macncheese if it’s one of several cheeses in the mix. I used to sneak it w a fork out of the fridge. Can get it at Costco in a two-pack.

We do Merks out here in the Midwest. We pack this with apples and beef jerky for hiking trips. Finding a nice spot to stop mid-hike and munching down is so satisfying

My wife’s grandmother used to make biscuits with a tub of this cheese added to it. It was incredible

I use it in an appetizer whenever I get invited out. You mix one tub with a package of cream cheese, some onion, garlic and walnuts. Then form it into a log, and roll it in a mix of curry powder, chili powder, and dill.

I love it for the leftovers best. It makes amazing grilled cheese.
