John Kessler, who's the food critic for Chicago Magazine, wrote a really fun fake review for the restaurant from The Bear. (Called The Bear, if you haven't seen the show.)

It's over the top and really funny if you've seen the newest season, and if you haven't watched this one yet but plan to, THERE'S SPECIFIC DETAILS IN HERE THAT AMOUNT TO SPOILERS. So don't read this if you're planning on watching Season 3.

I liked it better when it was just Italian Beef — does Chicago really need another pretentious, $$$$ Michelin-star chasing spot?

I root for Carmy and Syd and the restaurant in the show, but I’d be pissed if my local shitty beef stand was closed to renovate into this type of place.

Just went. Maybe it was an off night, but I don’t see what all of the fuss is about. Maybe I’ll give it another shot if Nagrant likes it.

Took my parents to The Bear after having an amazing Wagyu and ramp dish that blew my doors off. We went and it was no longer on the menu. What does this place do, change menus every day?

If so, I don’t know how they do it. If I were the head chef, I’d probably break down in a series of flashbacks to some Smashing Pumpkins song.

Anyway, the second visit was amazing, even if our server was an over-eager sweaty dude with a poorly tied tie and multiple tattoos who looked better suited as the guy who replaces lights and deals with kitchen plumbing. Funny guy, though.

And the food was amazing. My dad liked it so much we drove around to the barely-referenced drive-through window to get an original beef to go for lunch the next day.

I’m eager to learn if this place lives up to its reputation after a few weeks. I understand the Chicago Times review just came out.

I guess I’ll wait several months to see what it says. I’m in no rush.
