🍿 shits about to get good in here.

You want the thin p part of the triangle up. That way the moisture can drain away. It also stays hotter. If you keep the flat side up and get it really hot, the initial sear will be okay.

You just settled a months old debate between me and my FiL, thank you.

The Weber site says the wider side of the grate should go up, creating a more stable cooking surface.

This does not look appetizing at all. Thin burnt marks with most surface having no crust at all. 🤷

Why would you even want grill marks? The steak tastes better without them.

  7. Wide side up, pointy side down. Anyone saying otherwise can’t eat steak without A1.

I’ve always thought it was “pointy side up for smoke, flat side up for sear” on those type of grates. Could someone correct me or explain this beauty to me like I’m 5 1/2

I miss the stainless round bars for all purpose grilling. The Webber grate marks look comically wide or too thin and too far apart.

I looked at the Webber website for replacement grill grates hoping to find the stainless rounds one costs and was shocked to see a lot of people say their original grates corroded fairly quickly. The only thing I can think of is with the flat side up that allows for more surface area like a flat top….but in my mind either way the flame is blocked and is getting the bars hot.

Grill marks and sear are not the same thing.

When I was young I was all about the sear marks working in kitchens with my dad as a little boy I thought they were impressive. Prob into my teens and early 20’s. As I’ve gotten older. I’d much rather have a really complete crust any day of the week. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This looks like something you’d see cooked in a Sims game. Its like the uncanny valley of ribeyes that you subconsciously know isn’t safe to eat without getting violently ill.

Some Zuckerberg-looking dude behind the grill filming himself like **“Greetings fellow humans. I, too, enjoy this culinary experience. This propane device affords the convenience of modernity while preserving the primal quality of the open flame that you, I mean we, humans instinctively appreciate”**

I’m going to try using a cast iron on my grill, I think it’s the only way to get a really mean sear.

I mean use a flat pan for a better sear than grill marks.

That is about as uneven of a sear that you could possibly get. You might want to do some research on how to cook steaks.
