I love bread and butter pickles equally as much as dill pickles. When it comes to bread and butter pickles though I especially love traditional bread and butter where you have onions and turmeric in them. I do make them with the pre-made mix as well but IMO traditional is where its at.

I think they're so beautiful – like little jars of gems.

  2. Well that recipe certainly tells me where I went wrong the one time I finally got mustard seeds and tried to add them and it was gross! I probably used more in one jar than they did in the entire recipe lol (fridge pickles so I basically just guess on recipes at this point since it’s safe to do so)

    At least it also tells me my sugar ratio is legit and I’m not crazy for thinking it needs that much.

    History of B&B Pickles. Around the turn of the century (1900) there was a cucumber farmer in IL who was trying to figure out what to do with all of his misshapen cucumbers that nobody wanted to buy. His wife said why don’t we try this and pulled out her Mother’s pickle recipe. They made a batch and took them to their local grocery store (which were all independent at the time) and traded the pickles for – Bread & Butter – hence the name. They became the first great American food rage. By the end of the 1920s if you didn’t have B7B pickles on your table you did not have a well set table. It is also one of the very few American pickles. Most of our pickle recipes come from Europe.
