The recipe she sent was this:
Marinade:
3/4 to 1 cup sugar
2-3 tbsp hoison sauce
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp ponzu sauce (I couldn't find any so I committed it)
2 tbsp mirin (I substituted for sherry because I couldn't find any mirin, she said it should be fine and it was!)
2 tbsp ground ginger
2 tbsp freshly minced garlic
Meat:
Cut up pork into bite sized pieces, then let them marinate for as long as you can (I only marinated mine for an hour, but it'd be even better if you let it marinate longer)
Cooking:
Grill the pork until done (mine took 2-3 minutes per side), optional grill veggies and pineapple alongside it. Baste with extra marinade while cooking.
The instructions weren't exact in time and measurements for the meat, but I think they turned out amazing! And if someone knew if there was a name for these besides "pork skewers", that'd be cool to know! Googling pork skewers pulled up very similar recipes. Her mom makes these but neither of them knew an official name for it since it's just a staple in their family
