I don’t know what to say, since this subreddit clearly has a love for hating on this place, but we went to Feld yesterday and had a fabulous evening. We are visiting from NYC and already had the reservation so we went through with it. The main critiques we’ve seen here were in no way our experience. Seasoning was on point. Dish after dish was interesting, fun, and the story and context to each dish really added to the experience.

If you want a caviar/truffle meal, probably not the place for you. I am from Chicago originally and this is certainly the best food the Midwest has to offer. The hospitality and service are incredible, and that’s been noted a lot of places. Some highlights included:

  • A pickled egg yolk with grilled corn.
  • A series of dishes playing on the theme of spot prawn and tomato (sungolds blistered with a spot prawn broth was holy %&*! good).
  • Melon in an apple and irish moss seaweed sauce. We literally heard a neighbor table say “ohhh that’s how melon is supposed to taste.”
  • Dry Aged Pork in an “au Poivre” sauce using fermented spice berry instead of black pepper.
  • A dessert of pecan praline and Swedish chocolate. I would eat this every single night if I could.

Yes, the plating is simple, but the lighting in the space is not ideal for photos. I’d say they generally look much prettier in person. But also, they’re really simple 2-3 component dishes, highlighting the produce, so I don’t think much more needs to be done to the plates.

Honestly, there were no straight up duds. Watching the food being prepared in the middle of the room, hearing its story, and finishing the night with s’mores in the backyard made it more than a meal, it was a delightful experience. I don’t know what ya’ll are on about, but we would go back in a second.
