Went out last night to Meadowlark and then Table, Donkey and Stick for my birthday. It did not disappoint. Holy moly am I hungover. And 40…

Anyways, the meal started off with charcuterie featuring TDS’s fresh baked bread, house made duck liver mousse and house made head cheese (not pictured). Fantastic as always. If you’re at all into offal, both of these items will definitely hit.

We followed the charcuterie up with a melon dish w/ charred sweet corn and some sort of rendered crispy pork product (sorry – I don’t remember). It was fresh, refreshing, simple and delicious. Would definitely order again.

The marinated hanger steak with carrot puree might have been our favorite dish of the night. It was cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor. Also, at $15 it’s kind of a steal.

We finished the meal with a healthy portion of corn and chanterelle risotto topped with crispy corn silk (I know, don’t say it). The risotto was not too runny and not too firm. Every bite was a perfect blend of salty Parmesan, sweet corn and savory mushroom. So good.

Service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly.

The night ended with a mandatory TDS pickleback and drunken stumble down California to our condo in Humboldt.

10/10.

That’s funny—a couple weeks ago I was taken to Billy Sunday then TDS for my birthday. Really great meal, I’d go back any time. Stars were the charcuterie (we did bresola and hornkuhkase, tasty but the bread and all the pickles and such were the highlight), the beef cheek croquettes, and the tomato/cherry/beets salad. Great spot. Happy 40!

We hit them up during restaurant week and it was a home run. Glad to hear they’re still doing well!

This looks like such a gem! I live right by it in Humboldt but have never made it over there. Is it reasonable to walk-in on a week night? Or should I dust off the resy?

    Also happy birthday!

  5. the first and only time I went, they had a dish with fish flavored shaved ice that we ordered to be adventurous. it tasted exactly how you’d expect. while we didn’t love it, it was fun to try, and we still reference “fish ice” as a comparison point whenever taste something weird and new. I need to go again!

I love TDS, people don’t talk about them enough anymore!!!!!
Also: They have my favorite Restaurant Week in the city as it’s essentially their entire menu.

I want to be buried in a vat of their duck liver mousse. This place is deeply underrated.

Genuinely one of the most slept on restaurants in Chicago. Food and service are always spectacular. I also second the duck liver mousse burial. A schmear of that on the latkes is *chefs kiss*

What’s weird is I went here two weeks ago, ordered all different things than you did, but it still slapped. Great place!
