Novice veggie gardener here from 8b Seattle area. I got fired up and sowed a little more than 100 bush bean seeds on my 4×4 raised bed after harvesting potatoes from that space. Lo and behold — almost every seed germinated and the plants are fruiting already. Highly recommend beans if that’s your thing. They are delicious when sautéed with other veggies and highly nutritious, plus perfect crop for novice gardeners like myself. Try them out 🙂

  1. Wow, I’m in 6b or 7, depending on the day haha. I just pulled my potatoes and onions and getting ready to plant garlic, which will over winter.

Bush green beans are a must. I’m in 2b/2a and my bush beans are all done but my pole beans are still producing. my favorite green bean dish is to toast off some sliced almonds. Blanch the beans. Then throw a knob of butter into the almonds after it’s toasted and then to saute the beans into that. Add alittle salt and serve. My wife’s favorite side dish.

I grow Provider variety of bush beans every year in a space approx 4×4- planted every 3-4 inches- which is something like 250 plants! It’s way too many beans to eat or keep up with picking. Provider beans really produce!
Every summer I tell myself I’m going to plant fewer next year- and then I get excited and make the same mistake again in the spring 😂

Bush beans are nuts, I can pull ten pounds of beans a week off of like 50 sqft of them. Beans in general are just real powerful little plants.
